Spring has sprung! In the spirit of the season, take some time to spruce up your website, just as you may be doing around your home. This is the perfect time to take a closer look at the functionality, ease of use, and relevance of your company website.

Take a look at your content
When did you last update your site? Does the content still reflect your company’s mission and goals? It’s imperative that your website is an accurate reflection of your company. In addition to content, we also recommend double-checking that your contact information, staff list and/or profiles, event calendar, and pricing information is up to date.

Add new content
Take this time to upload new photos and videos of your business and staff. Get a few testimonials from recent clients! Even just a couple of small updates can make a big difference. Google definitely pays more attention to sites that have frequent updates to their content.

Check your links
Nobody likes getting an error message. Take this time to look for outdated or broken links. We also recommend checking all of your external links, to make sure they are not sending website visitors to expired sites, content or pages. However, you should get into the habit of doing this more frequently; we suggest conducting an audit of your links each month.

Re-evaluate your site navigation
You could make your way around your website with your eyes closed. It’s your website after all. But, visitors may not be as familiar. Take a step back and look at your website with fresh eyes. Reach out to your business network and get their input. Is it easy to use? Does the order and placement make sense? Could anything be done to make it flow more easily, or to make it more user-friendly?

Review your call to action buttons
Diversify your CTAs, mixing it up between things like “buy now, join now, download now” and “like us on Facebook” or “follow us on Instagram.” You also want to make sure that your CTAs are not only well designed but also well placed throughout the site. More is more when it comes to call to actions that produce results.

Test your website on different browsers
Everyone has preferences! You may swear by Safari; others by Google Chrome. Make sure that your website looks and functions properly on each browser and version. And in this day and age, it’s crucial that your website is mobile-friendly.

Test your website on different mobile devices
With 52% of web traffic coming from mobile search, you really want to test your site on various mobile devices. Knowing that the top two things a visitor is looking for when it comes to mobile are directions and phone numbers, make sure that these are front and center. Also keep in mind that your mobile site needs to load in less than 3 seconds or you run the risk of losing a visitor.

Review your analytics
Google Analytics will tell you what type of actions people are taking on your site, ranging from how long they spend, to what pages they visit. With this information, you’ll get a better idea of what needs adjusting or removing altogether.

Take a look at the competition
While you’re identifying areas where you could improve, it’s also beneficial to see what others in your industry are doing. Is there site more responsive than yours? Do they seem to update it more frequently?
